How did you discover your love of painting?
I never dreamed I would end up having a career as a painter. My art career was not planned and happened by surprise. One day I tried painting for the very first time and can honestly say I was hooked. I think they’re times in life you try something new and it just feels right - an instant connection, and with painting, I knew this was what I was meant to do in life. I worked at painting daily, canvas after canvas and though it was and still can be trying at times, I truly feel blessed that I am able to create for people everyday and I love it.
What inspires your work?
I am inspired by things that are often overlooked, like the beauty that emanates from an object changed by time; dilapidating walls, buildings, cracked sidewalks, trains, the rust present on old tools made of corroded metal. My work focuses on texture and layers of color always intertwining a fusion of the old with the new.
I begin my work without any preconceived idea what the finished work is going to look like. It is important to me that each piece I create reveals a bit of history hidden within. As in life, we all have a story to tell and I hope that my art will send the viewer into a beautiful journey of discovery.
